Why in the world a different site? Well, why not after all I have thousands of pages under all sorts of pen names as well as real names as well as hundreds of e-mail address and blogs or web pages or any other name you wish to call them. Maybe best just say letters as well as pictures to everyone in my large and big family as well as all the friends and enemies that I have made over my 67 years while on this earth.
I love to talk about my family especially when they do DUMB ASS STUFF and also about the places I live as well as people that feel they have more power than the rest of us. Only because they were elected or appointed or jailers or even ceo's and presidents of what ever they may be in charge of or owners of. In short I will discuss most anything as well as use names and places as well as times and nothing but the TRUTH will be told. Of course I still end up in court a lot because now days the truth seems to do that. When you hurt other's feelings with the truth then they like to call it slander or degrading or even lie's and it makes them to be come an unlivable slug in society so they take me to court to fight whatever is the truth and sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. It all depends more on the insurance companies many times in my case. I have lost a few to where it was cheaper to admit guilt ( not me) the insurance companies and pay what they feel will calm them down in the thousands of dollars instead of the millions. After all I only carry so much insurance and will it could be in the millions the people wanting the money will see how much I have then sue for that amount. This stops lawywrs from getting the majority of the money and places me in not only the wrong but also seeking insurance from someone else that decided to pay the millions instead of fighting for what was the truth only because of the expense of the courts.
Never ever believe that right always wins out as I remember one time of being sued for thousands and the insurance paid off even though I was never in the wrong as well never knew what happened. But, I had to buy insurance over seas from Lloyd of London for years because I was a hot potato for any USA insurance company that I could even afford. I have been sued over people wanting to rent a home from me for than falling and never told about it until I receive court papers. I have been sued over a dog biting a burglar that was stealing from me as well. But, let me assure you that being sued is not as hard as many people think. Especially if those people do it for a living! Yes, I know of someone in my own family that does this from time to time. But, I say more power to them after all why not as we all do something to earn as much as we can so this corrupt government can't take it all from us. Maybe just useless paper that means nothing but your able to trade for it as long as someone is willing to trade that useless paper for whatever goods they want to sell or trade.
Starting this new page and will cancel all my others out as I do over the years that I have been doing this. Your able to find majority by any search engine just using lewis1946 for whatever interest I may have spoke on and enter lewis1946 then bad sheriff cop or whatever subject and you will see sites pop up as I am sure there is not much that I have not spoke on in my years of a newsman as well as reporter. In fact I have seen people my age today that never have seen a computer and still read the morning and evening paper. One day there all going to die and then what? But, most of us oldies have found if we don't learn then we never would hear the truth. After all the truth is stopped by those in power in the now called Black House. If you report anything that the President of this country states and he doesn't like it, then your going out of business. Best to learn to operative a computer to see the news around the world and learn that our brave men in uniform are killing children , women, elderly and seldom any other fighting men in those countries. But, of course this is never to be seen or shown on network cable television but a few radio people will report it. but, so what as what you don't see won't hurt you as they say. One day it will be our turn and then what will you do? I am awaiting that day and believe me I enjoy watching as the months and even years go by. I learned to thank the Almighty daily when I awaken as never know when my last day is going to be. It could be even after this post. But, I doubt it as the Almighty is not done with me for some strange odd reason. Maybe to provide for my friends as well as family great and grad kids as they could never provide as I do and keep the bills paid. One day that day will fall upon them and I can say with all the money between them they will not have what they do now.
I enjoy watching their dumb stupid actions daily. I also wonder how they learn to become so stupid and then after speaking to a few that made it out of college of four plus years, I am amazed at how dumb they really are and how did they get that AA. Ba p.h.d and so on. Then when I learn money was all it took then I understand where this public system has gone. Even local cops still take money for speeding tickets and get caught from time to time. Even selling drugs from the patrol cars. Stealing from even the evidence rooms. Hell I even remember when a Little Flock police station was broken into years ago and had their guns stolen. Now things are bad when a police station is broken into.
Just a week or so ago, we had people from the police department draining a private pond for a missing person. That pond was so dirty and filthy and talk about nice and clean now reminds me of a story. A man and son use to dig up the land for planting each summer. The son was in jail and knew his dad could not do all the work himself. So, he stated that there were buried dead bodies on his dad's property. Those good old boys did a good job, the dad wrote his son, and even I didn't have to help this year to turn that soil. The son wrote back and said your welcome dad and we should get a good crop for sure this year!
That is the type of old man I am always thinking as well as listening and then telling it exactly as how it is and always the truth. After all have you ever seen anyone able to remember a lie? Well my family as well as there friends are so silly as well as dumb that I decided to make some income off what I don't like to see let alone hear. How I do this will come out in time, but meanwhile that is for a future story here. Besides need to see if I like this new site as well as if there willing to keep me or fight me as most do. But we will see. If at all ,interested then start watching this site until I decide to change again.
My grandson and his friend that is not very bright upstairs went and traded in a car already paid for and got another and owes $1500.00. Then bought fireworks to celebrate as well as some other stupid crap. Only $200.00 a month or $50.00 a week on unemployment of less than $200.00 a week. with total left of $700.00. Just doesn't work out the way I figure, but seems to work out to them. Oh well, as I said I am just the old man and I just have no understanding as to how things are done. LOL Then there is the brothers left over girl friend that was with another friend and is now with another brother that will be having another kid that is not who she is living with now in 18 days. The other two kids with grandma because she is well you know what I say. Of course I don't like it but my grand son's wanted it to be so I said fine then $200.00 a month. We will see soon enough. But, even hear that fireworks will be cheaper this year. seems that someone is selling them less than regular cost. Makes me think there not legal. But, what the hell I am just an old man and what would I know. Hey can I get a van full please. lol?
OK this is a good start for today's web page and hope you all decide to follow.

June 30, 2013- Would you believe I even went to school to become a cop, even started to run for sheriff once in a city I use to live.....But.......
I'm so glad that Almighty gave me the common sense not to pursue it as a career. I always wanted to be in law enforcement but after obtaining my degree and looking at how these local departments were run and the meager salaries they paid I chose to pursue other things. One big thing that is wrong with law enforcement in this area is the pay. Who wants to risk their life for a starting salary of about 29,000 or so per year? You can go to just a medium size city away from our area and make double that. Also our police academies are not doing the best jobs of training our officers either. It seems as though our local officers concentrate more on writing seat belt violations than actually patrolling businesses and neighborhoods looking for the hard core criminals. This has lost them a lot of respect from the public. Yes we need to enforce safety on the road ways but not wearing a seat belt doesn't constitute our officers running us down and impeding traffic to write a ticket. We see almost weekly around here that a business is robbed at gun point and most of the time in broad daylight. And just exactly where are the police when this is happening? Usually they can be found writing tickets. Again I'm not saying we don't need this service but we have less cops patrolling said neighborhoods and businesses and more writing moving violation tickets. This really doesn't add up. It seems we have more traffic cops than cops that are out making their presence known by patrolling our businesses and neighborhoods and trying to keep them safe from the lowest of low. Being a police is stressful, dangerous and they never know if they will make it back home to see their families. But the phrase you get what you pay for is true. Pay meager wages, you get meager results. ITs the same with any occupation. Pony up the dough, people feel better, they have more money, and are much more eager to keep said job and do it to the best of their abilities. Pay them bottom of the rung wages and you get just enough to get by on and sometimes not even that. Lots of temptations out there with all jobs but like is said in this police deal with guns, drugs and money and that is a temptation. But I guarantee it wouldn't be if they were paid a living wage.
cops are crooks from the jump. most cops become cops because A they were bullied in school or b the military doesn't want them anymore. I avoids pigs like they are the plague and have had a happy life. make the world a safer place do away with police give everyone a gun and teach them how and when to use it.
but I do agree that too many of our police officers have gone bad from the word go. Like I said I think most of it stems from too little pay and being overworked. You get what you pay for. But from my observations police do think they have more power than they actually have and a lot of times break the laws they are trying to enforce. But here is a fact that most people don't know and no police will tell you this, but police are not there to protect you from the bad guys, they are there only to enforce the laws that are on the books. So if someone is looking to the police for protection they cannot and will not protect you. That's up to us. Then we have to pray that we are in the right when doing so, otherwise the bad guys get off and the innocent go to jail. Yes its a corrupt system we have and I put 99 percent of the blame on our liberal judges and court system
“There is opportunity in law enforcement” for temptation, he said. “We all deal with money, we all deal with drugs and we all deal with guns.”
Experts say the trick is to recruit officers who can resist that temptation. Yet rural police departments often face slim pickings when it comes time to hire new officers.
“The recruitment, selection, training, supervision and discipline in smaller departments are frequently less rigorous than in the larger ones.
Young, of Pennington Gap, is serving nine years in federal prison for playing the inside man in the 2012 burglary of a Rite Aid pharmacy. He sent all his officers home the night of the break-in and used the police radio to make sure none of the region’s sheriffs deputies were around when his cohorts crawled through the drive-through window.
Call, the former Saltville investigator, served two years in prison after agents caught him selling drugs in a church parking lot.
Richardson, the former Damascus chief, served three years for selling drugs out of his patrol car.
Adding to the problem in Pennington Gap was that Young’s drug clientele remained relatively unchanged in the year he ran the department as it was before he got the job. It seems his clients told federal agents they were not afraid to buy from Young because he sold to them before he became chief.
Federal agents say the department’s recently fired chief, Roberts, had been hooked on meth and painkillers for years, a federal search warrant states. He'd scoop the drugs out of the evidence locker and take them to a friend's house and try to match them with pictures in a police drug dictionary, according to the warrant. The pills identified as blood-pressure medicine went into the toilet and everything else was crushed and snorted, agents said.
Evidence-locker thefts are old hat, and unless an honest officer is watching will always take place in any department. Many of these stories you can still see in places all over the United States, as I observed over my life time.
You would be surprised how one person can start the ball of changes if only you would and come together with others that were done wrong by certain officers. Today you have computers that messages can travel to people and get information. You have all sorts of devices to catch known crooks with badges and just need to know which one's will work and never ever use the same one. All these things are a lot cheaper than a court fine and charges especially if your not guilty. But, were all so trained into paying this corrupt system the monies they request than to take time off work to fight a bad person with that power and known to lie even if sworn not to.
Know a bad cop? Not only should you file a complaint with that department head, but also with the Mayor as well as the F.B.I and that states attorney general. I assure you if their is any truth in what you state then two of those departments will look into it as well as let you know that they were happy that you informed them of the bad cop after they have checked it out. They will even get an agent to become a new officer of that corrupt police unit to catch the drug dealing selling cops and those stealing from evidence rooms or even bold enough to sell drugs from their own police units. I have seen it in my life time. But takes others to be willing to fight back and many just won't get involved any longer for reasons that it is none of my business. One day it may be, then what?

3 Reasons why criticism affects you badly
Criticism is the practice of judging the merits and faults of something or someone in a sometimes negative, sometimes intelligible, (or articulate) way.
The judger is called "the critic".
To engage in criticism is "to criticize".
One specific item of criticism is called "a criticism" or a "critique".
This article provides only general information about criticism. For subject-specific information, see the Varieties of criticism page.
Criticism can be:
directed toward a person or an animal; at a group, authority or organization; at a specific behavior; or at an object of some kind (an idea, a relationship, a condition, a process, or a thing).
personal (delivered directly from one person to another, in a personal capacity), or impersonal (expressing the view of an organization, and not aimed at anyone personally).
highly specific and detailed, or very abstract and general.
verbal (expressed in language) or non-verbal (expressed symbolically, or expressed through an action or a way of behaving).
explicit (the criticism is clearly stated) or implicit (a criticism is implied by what is being said, but it is not stated openly).
the result of critical thinking[1] or spontaneous impulse.
To criticize does not necessarily imply "to find fault", but the word is often taken to mean the simple expression of an objection against prejudice, or a disapproval. Often criticism involves active disagreement, but it may only mean "taking sides". It could just be an exploration of the different sides of an issue. Fighting is not necessarily involved.
Criticism is often presented as something unpleasant, but it need not be. It could be friendly criticism, amicably discussed, and some people find great pleasure in criticism ("keeping people sharp", "providing the critical edge"). The Pulitzer Prize for Criticism has been presented since 1970 to a newspaper writer who has demonstrated 'distinguished criticism'.
Another meaning of criticism is the study, evaluation, and interpretation of literature, artwork, film, and social trends (see the article links below). The goal of this type of criticism is to understand the possible meanings of cultural phenomena, and the context in which they take shape. In so doing, the attempt is often made to evaluate how cultural productions relate to other cultural productions, and what their place is within a particular genre, or a particular cultural tradition.
Criticism as an evaluative or corrective exercise can occur in any area of human life. Criticism can therefore take many different forms. How exactly people go about criticizing, can vary a great deal. In specific areas of human Endeavour, the form of criticism can be highly specialized and technical; it often requires professional knowledge to understand the criticism.
5 killer tips to succeed in business
So, I was thinking about how I wanted to improve myself in 2013. Quit smoking? Nope, don’t smoke. Lose weight? Meh, no thanks. Stop stressing over things I cannot control (along with eliminating many other anxiety-causing habits I possess)? Bingo. To put it simply – this year I want to be more calm, cool, and collected and more resilient to negative outside forces.
On my quest to learn some tricks to achieve this, I came across Geoffrey James‘ blog post on his eight personal beliefs that help him with resilience. Here are 5 of those beliefs that should become your daily mantra. They can help you succeed in business, whether you’re a business owner, startup newbie, or an entrepreneur just looking for a little self-improvement.
1. Not taking action is failing
Most people are so deathly afraid that their idea will fail that they don’t even try to make it work. But Geoffrey always tells himself (and I love this):
“If I don’t take action, I’ll fail by default, so what have I got to lose?”
2. Failing is a learning lesson
I’m pretty sure if you ask any successful entrepreneur they will tell you of the many fails they had to go through, and that they learned more from their fails than from their successes. Geoffrey describes his failures as renewing his humility, sharpening his objectivity and making him more resilient.
3. Be kind to yourself
This is incredibly important. When other people are unkind to you, remember you have the control to be kind to yourself, especially when you are running your own business. The naysayer’s are everywhere, ready to knock you down. Geoffrey says it’s your responsibility to treat yourself well (and tell the Negative Nancy’s to talk to the hand cuz the face aren’t listening’!) Check out Startup Zen Lesson 2 for more on this resilience-boosting tip.
4. Don’t take it personally
In business you’re always faced with trying situations that you can either take personally or know that business is business. By taking failures or criticism in business to heart, you cloud your judgment and harm your chances of growth. Bottom line: don’t take it personally. Geoffrey says these are the five magic words to help even the most difficult of business situations.
5. Erase “I’ll try” from your vernacular
Geoffrey believes this is self-defeating, and he’s right. If your response to completing projects is “I’ll try,” you’re already setting yourself up to fail. Instead, use words like “I will” and “I must.” This will breed confidence and focus and get you closer to achieving your goals.
So go, my young and ambitious self-improver. Take these 5 resilience-building mantras and work them into your daily business-building routine so you can make 2013 one super successful year.
5 things that make men more attractive to women
Why Men Fall In Love9 Powerful Words You Can Say That Remind Him Why He Needs You. HaveTheRelationshipYouWant.com
1. Physical stature
Yep, you knew this already: size matters. Height and weight are right on top of the list of things women notice. "Too much or too little of either immediately classifies the man as unattractive to women, and closes the door before less physically obviously features (such as confidence) can be determined," says Dr Patzer. Take heart though, the acceptable range is influenced by the woman's own height and weight.
2. Appearances and attractiveness
Yes, beauty is skin deep, but it's going to get women to explore what lies beneath. Attractiveness does include what you were born with, but your genes alone can't scuttle your chances. What really counts is what you do with your hair, clothes, grooming and basic hygiene. If you can't make the effort, women certainly are not going to work hard to learn more about you!
3. Smile
Once women are done assessing your overall build, women will look at your smile. "The ability to smile, particularly within the first few minutes of meeting, sends a welcoming, non-hostile signal to women," says Dr Patzer. There is one proviso though -- the smile must show off reasonably good-looking teeth. It's never too late to fix an appointment with the dentist!
4. Humour
Another reason to show off those pearly whites! Women like men who have the ability to laugh. Even better, make the woman laugh. That instantly nets you bonus points!
5. Confidence
Women find confident men attractive. According to Dr Sameer Malhotra, head of psychiatry and psychotherapy department at Fortis Hospital in New Delhi, within the first few minutes of meeting, women will not only suss out your level of confidence, they will also interpret the vibes you give out and how you think. "Women notice how clear or decisive you are and whether you approach things positively." Just remember, cockiness and arrogance are not the same as confidence!
6. Conversation
Men have successfully given womankind the impression of being strong and silent. So women aren't expecting you to have mad talking skills. All you've got to do hold her attention. "We know (scientifically) that the more or longer that a woman gets to know a man, the more physically attractive he becomes in her mind," says Dr Patzer. Women are looking for someone to keep up the conversation -- so forget the one-liners, just be yourself!
Here’s something a little extra added!
Let’s just say that if I could bottle and sell this, I’d be one rich dude.
All the men in the pick-up artist (PUA) community have tried to turn it into a science. Depending on whether you’re reading David DeAngelo, Neil Strauss’ The Game, or The Mystery Method, you’re going to hear various versions of the same themes. You have to be cocky. You have to have a sense of humor. You have to keep her off-balance by putting her down and showing her you’re in control. This blog post isn’t about arguing these points, although I think there’s definitely something to the first two.
But one thing I rarely hear from men who advise men is something I hear all the time from women.
Show me a man who is PASSIONATE and PROFICIENT at what he does.
Those are two separate ideas, so let’s not conflate them.
Passion is all about effort and energy and devotion. It’s about living, breathing, and embodying something. It’s about being so immersed in a subject that one can’t tell where it begins and you end.
A writer who comes home from his day job to squeeze in two hours of creative thought before meeting his girlfriend for dinner? Passionate.
A swimmer who wakes up at 5:30am every day to train for the Olympics? Passionate
Those weird kids that memorize the dictionary for the national spelling bee? Passionate
The flip side of the passion coin are people who are truly gifted but squander their gifts due to indifference, fear, or laziness. For example:
The musician who wants to be in a band, but refuses to answer ads to audition.
The entrepreneur who has an amazing business idea but won’t share his idea to begin developing it.
The woman who would love to be a party planner but won’t apprentice on the side to learn the craft.
Notice the word “but” in each sentence. “But” is merely an excuse that we believe is reasonable. When you remove the “but,” no excuse is reasonable. Unreasonable people are the one who move mountains.
Reasonable people can always find a reason to say “why not.” Such people don’t command respect.
Passionate people do.
Except in one instance. There’s a type of passionate person who, despite their love and drive, fails to inspire others around them. This is the passionate person who’s not very skilled.
Hate to say it, but just ‘cause you love doing something doesn’t mean you’re good at it….
5 ways to improve your intelligence
Your brain needs exercise just like a muscle. If you use it often and in the right ways, you will become a more skilled thinker and increase your ability to focus. But if you never use your brain, or abuse it with harmful chemicals, your ability to think and learn will deteriorate.
Here are 5 simple ways anyone can squeeze a bit more productivity out of the old gray matter.
1. Minimize Television Watching – This is a hard sell. People love vegetating in front of the television, myself included more often than I’d like. The problem is watching television doesn’t use your mental capacity OR allow it to recharge. It’s like having the energy sapped out of a muscle without the health benefits of exercise.
Don’t you feel drained after a couple hours of TV? Your eyes are sore and tired from being focused on the light box for so long. You don’t even have the energy to read a book.
When you feel like relaxing, try reading a book instead. If you’re too tired, listen to some music. When you’re with your friends or family, leave the tube off and have a conversation. All of these things use your mind more than television and allow you to relax.
2. Exercise – I used to think that I’d learn more by not exercising and using the time to read a book instead. But I realized that time spent exercising always leads to greater learning because it improves productivity during the time afterwards. Using your body clears your head and creates a wave of energy. Afterwards, you feel invigorated and can concentrate more easily.
3. Read Challenging Books – Many people like to read popular suspense fiction, but generally these books aren’t mentally stimulating. If you want to improve your thinking and writing ability you should read books that make you focus. Reading a classic novel can change your view of the world and will make you think in more precise, elegant English. Don’t be afraid to look up a word if you don’t know it, and don’t be afraid of dense passages. Take your time, re-read when necessary, and you’ll soon grow accustomed to the author’s style.
Once you get used to reading challenging books, I think you’ll find that you aren’t tempted to go back to page-turners. The challenge of learning new ideas is far more exciting than any tacky suspense-thriller.
4. Early to Bed, Early to Rise – Nothing makes it harder to concentrate than sleep deprivation. You’ll be most rejuvenated if you go to bed early and don’t sleep more than 8 hours. If you stay up late and compensate by sleeping late, you’ll wake up lethargic and have trouble focusing. In my experience the early morning hours are the most tranquil and productive. Waking up early gives you more productive hours and maximizes your mental acuity all day.
If you have the opportunity, take 10-20 minute naps when you are hit with a wave of drowsiness. Anything longer will make you lethargic, but a short nap will refresh you.
5. Take Time to Reflect – Often our lives get so hectic that we become overwhelmed without even realizing it. It becomes difficult to concentrate because nagging thoughts keep interrupting. Spending some time alone in reflection gives you a chance organize your thoughts and prioritize your responsibilities. Afterwards, you’ll have a better understanding of what’s important and what isn’t. The unimportant stuff won’t bother you anymore and your mind will feel less encumbered.
I’m not saying you need to sit on the floor cross-legged and chant ‘ommm’. Anything that allows a bit of prolonged solitude will do. One of my personal favorites is taking a solitary walk. Someone famous said, “All the best ideas occur while walking.” I think he was on to something. Experiment to find the activity that works best for you.
Conclusion – I hope you aren’t disappointed that none of the techniques I’ve proposed are revolutionary. But simple, unexciting answers are often the most valid. The challenge is having the will to adhere to them. If you succeed in following these 5 tips, you’ll be rewarded with increased mental acuity and retention of knowledge.
5 weird reasons people have friends
When you said, “I do,” that meant you were done looking for a new best friend, right? Your spouse would forever be your go-to person for advice about work and family. Your mate would share all of your interests, and be happy to listen to whatever is on your mind. If I’m describing your fantasy, I guess you’ve already figured out the truth: Our spouse cannot and should not satisfy all of our needs. That’s where friends come in.
Research shows that a rich life with love, health and happiness is dependent upon having a support network made up of more than our spouse. Life will be more interesting and your marriage will be even better, if you have these five types of friends to rely on too.
The Adventurer:
When you and your mate get into a boring daily routine, an inspiring friend can help you break free of the monotony. The adventurer goes to concerts, is the first one to know about a new restaurant in town and takes day-trips to museums in a nearby city. She encourages you to join her at a knitting convention or inspires you to take up tae kwon do. She doesn’t just talk about doing things, she actually does it. With her help, you will never lose sight of the fact that life is what you make it.
The Truthful Friend:
Never out to hurt you, but not here to shield you either, this friend tells it like it is. She is confident and comfortable with her own life, so she has no axe to grind. You can trust with your secrets, and she’ll be your personal family advisor without judging your situation. Having an honest friend who has your best interests in mind, helps you stay on the right track.
The Work Advisor:
This friend might be a co-worker, your old high school buddy or your neighbor. However you met him or her, you know that she has wisdom when it comes to making important life choices about where to work, when to ask for a raise and how to decide when it’s time to make a change. You might not share a love of fried chicken or movies, but when it comes to work, this friend knows more than anyone.
The Childhood Friend:
When you’re angry with your overbearing mother, you call your childhood friend to vent. You know that she will listen to all of your complaints, but she won’t join you in ridiculing your mom. Rather, she’ll offer a balanced perspective that comes from having known you and your mother for decades. A childhood friend doesn’t jump to conclusions, she looks to put a temporary situation in context. Having a friend who forgives your foibles and reminds you of your history, helps you make better decisions in the present.
The Unlikely Friend:
If you put all of your friends in one room, this one might not fit in. Perhaps this friend is much quieter and introverted than your other friends. Maybe she has unique interests like photography, skateboarding or writing. This difference is exactly why you like her. She brings out something special in you, that your other friends don’t see. When you are with her, you feel like a secret part of yourself is being expressed. The unlikely friend makes life richer and allows you to be all of who you are.
Are white people smarter than black ones
One of the world's most eminent scientists has created a racial firestorm in Britain.
James D. Watson, 79, co-discoverer of the DNA helix and winner of the 1962 Nobel Prize in medicine, told the Sunday Times of London that he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours — whereas all the testing says not really."
He recognized that the prevailing belief was that all human groups are equal, but that "people who have to deal with black employees find this not true."
• Click here to read the full Sunday Times of London profile.
Acknowledging that the issue was a "hot potato," the lifelong Democrat and avowed secular humanist nonetheless said his beliefs were not an excuse to discriminate against blacks.
"There are many people of color who are very talented," said Watson, "but don't promote them when they haven't succeeded at the lower level."
He told the interviewer, a former student of his, that he had recently inaugurated a DNA learning center near Harlem, and would like to have more black researchers at his lab, "but there's no one to recruit..
Steven Rose, a professor of biological sciences at the Open University in Britain, was quick to dismiss Watson's comments.
"This is Watson at his most scandalous, " Rose told the Times of London. "If he knew the literature in the subject, he would know he was out of his depth scientifically, quite apart from socially and politically."
Watson is the former director and current chancellor of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory biological-research institution on New York's Long Island, and both admired and infamous for bluntly speaking his mind.
In a British television documentary in 2003, Watson advised eliminating low intelligence through gene therapy.
"If you are really stupid, I would call that a disease," said Watson, according to New Scientist magazine. "The lower 10 percent who really have difficulty, even in elementary school, what's the cause of it?
"A lot of people would like to say, 'Well, poverty, things like that.' It probably isn't," he added. "So I'd like to get rid of that, to help the lower 10 percent."
He also touched upon sexual attraction in the same TV program.
"People say it would be terrible if we made all girls pretty," Watson said. "I think it would be great."
In 2000, he told a lecture audience at U.C. Berkeley that there was a correlation between a population's exposure to sunlight and its sex drive.
"That's why you have Latin lovers," Watson said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "You've never heard of an English lover. Only an English patient."
The notion that intelligence tests and other scientific evidence shows that racial groups differ in intelligence, at least statistically, is not a new one.
It last gained popular attention in 1994 with "The Bell Curve," a best-selling book written by Harvard psychologist Richard J. Herrnstein (who died before publication) and political scientist Charles Murray, which argued that intelligence was more important than socio-economic background or education in achieving success in American life.
The book does not explicitly ascribe a genetic, racial connection to intelligence, but Murray in his publicity tour to promote the book cited studies that human intelligence could be ranked by ancestry, with East Asians and European Jews leading the way.
That view was more clearly stated in 1995 by British-Canadian psychologist J. Philippe Rushton, whose "Race, Evolution and Behavior: A Life History Perspective" quantified dozens of differences between blacks, whites and Asians.
In the 1970s, electronics pioneer William Shockley, who won the 1956 Nobel Prize in physics, said that the human race would suffer as less intelligent people outbred more intelligent ones, with the greatest damage to occur in the black American population.
Most sociologists, geneticists and psychologists reject the notion of racial differences in intelligence, pointing out that economic and social factors clearly influence IQ test scores.
The issue of race itself is scientifically controversial, with some arguing that it is a meaningless term and others saying that consistent traits occur among individuals of shared ancestry.
Watson is currently in Britain promoting his just-published new volume of memoirs, "Avoid Boring People: Lessons From a Life in Science."
"There is no firm reason to anticipate that the intellectual capacities of peoples geographically separated in their evolution should prove to have evolved identically," he writes. "Our wanting to reserve equal powers of reason as some universal heritage of humanity will not be enough to make it so."
A true story about success and failure
a few of our favorite notable success stories:
Dr. Seuss’ first book was rejected by 27 different publishers. He’s now one of the most popular children’s book authors ever.
Charlie Chaplin’s (1899-1977) act was rejected by executives because they thought it was too obscure for people to understand. But then they took a chance on Chaplin, who went on to become America’s first bona fide movie star.
Marilyn Monroe’s first contract with Columbia Pictures expired because they told her she wasn’t pretty or talented enough to be an actress. She kept plugging away and is one of the most iconic actresses and sex symbols of all time.
Oprah Winfrey was fired from her television reporting job because they told her she wasn’t fit to be on screen. But Winfrey rebounded and became the undisputed queen of television talk shows. (She’s also a billionaire.)
Vera Wang failed to make the U.S. Olympic figure-skating team. Then she became an editor at Vogue and was passed over for the editor-in-chief position. She began designing wedding gowns at 40 and today is the premier designer in the business, with a multi-billion dollar industry.
The first time Jerry Seinfeld went onstage, he was booed away by the jeering crowd. Eventually, he became a famous comic with one of the most-loved sitcoms ever.
J.K. Rowling was unemployed, divorced and raising a daughter on social security while writing the first Harry Potter novel. She is now internationally renowned for her seven-book Harry Potter series and was the first female billionaire author.
We aren’t here to be the judges or the police of who is failing and who is succeeding. We can’t exactly quantify it, and in most cases it will come down to a personal decision based on what you think is best. You may find yourself uninspired by your content and want to expand, narrow your focus, or change directions. Go for it!
There’s no rule that says your first attempt (or second, or third…) has to be the one. The worst thing you can do for yourself and your blog is spend time on something that isn’t making you happy or isn’t delivering what you wanted to get out of it. There’s always time to start over, re-vamp, re-do, and wipe the slate clean. (This is the Vera Wang way, apparently!)
Here’s the other side of the coin: If you’re completely happy and motivated and excited about what you’re doing – and no one else is – whatever! Just keep doin’ your thang (Like Monroe and Seinfeld). Other people will always want to put in their opinion, to judge you or try to convince you that they know what’s best. It’s your life and your blog, and what becomes of it is completely in your control. Now you know!
Different strategies for attracting people to you
What attracts people to each other?
and why would someone find a person attractive?
Contrary to common beliefs attraction is not something supernatural or something that can hardly be understood but there are lots of rules that govern the process. While all people become attracted to others in the same way still it happens for a different reason with each person.
In this article i will tell you what attracts people to each other and how can you manipulate this info to increase your own attractiveness.
This is what attracts people to each other
Physical attraction: The first factor that attracts people to each other is looks. Physical looks on its own can do no good but its represents the doorway to which many people start from. Most men are first attracted to physical looks which then motivates them to dig further and know more about the person. Contrary to common beliefs not all people give the same priority to physical attraction even if they were attractive themselves. Everyone has his own attraction map that is completely unique and that includes the common items such as physical looks according to the importance the person assigned to them (see Do looks really attract women?).
Physical proximity and attraction: The second factor that attracts people to each other is physical proximity. Research has shown that people usually become attracted to those they meet often or those who live near by them. If you want to attract a person to you then make sure you let him see you often
Familiarity: The third and very important factor that attracts people to each other is familiarity. People get attracted to the one they are familiar with, the ones that resemble their parents or the ones who share some common traits with them. This is another reason why physical proximity increases attractiveness. When someone sees someone else more often he becomes more familiar with him and it becomes
more likely that he gets attracted to him see (do likes attract)
Culture and attractiveness: Another factors that affects the way people get attracted to each other is the culture. In my article Attractiveness and culture i explained how the culture the person lives in can define his attraction map and let him prefer a certain trait that is not preferred in another culture
Complementary traits and attractiveness: In my book How to make someone fall in love with you i said that the most powerful factor that influences how people get attracted to each other is complementary traits. Each person has his own attraction map that he acquired as a result of his past experiences. If you managed to match this attraction map and show the person that you have the complementary traits that he is in need of you will easily attract him.
Can a physical disability prevent me from succeeding
Types of Physical Disability
You might have heard of people with disability whether it is physical or mental, they suffer a lot. It is too often that child to suffer from development disability both in physically and mentally. Certainly, there are some remedies to overcome this disability. These physical disabilities can hamper individual life and reduces the working ability of the person.
Impairment in mobility is one type of disability that some individual suffer. This physical disability includes upper limb disability and disability of co-ordination of various body parts. Impairment disability can be congenital or acquired with the age. People who have broken skeletal structures come under this category.
Spinal cord disability is other type of physical disability where spinal cord injuries can lead to lifelong disability. These injury causes due to meeting with severe accident. Spinal cord injury can be complete or incomplete. In complete spinal injury, there is complete loss of sensory organ; whereas in incomplete spinal injury, the spinal are not completely lost.
Brian disability is another type of disability, which occurs due to brain injury. This injury can be sometimes severe, moderate or can mild. Anyhow, it affects the function of brain. Brian injury can be broadly described as Acquired Brain Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury. Acquired brain injury are formed rite form birth and is not the hereditary disability; whereas Traumatic brain injury can effect emotionally and behavioral disturbance.
One more kind of disability is the Vision disability where the person losses his eyes site. There are millions of people around the world, who are affected by vision disability. This type so injury can lead to permanent loss of eyesight. Some of the types of vision disability includes, scratched cornea, scratched sclera, dry eyes and corneal graft. However, as the advancement of the technology vision, disability can be brought to normal and there are some cases, which got positive reply.
Hearing disability is one type of physical disability where a person losses the power to hear. There are cases where person with fully deaf or partially deaf. People with partial deaf use hearing aid, which helps them to hear. However, people with full deaf come under severe deafness case.
Cognitive disability is type of disability where a person is suffering from dyslexia and various learning disabilities. People with dyslexia suffer in learning ability but with the proper treatment, this disability can also be treated.
These physical disabilities can be treated if the person is properly guided under medications. There are many hospitals and doctors out there, who have achieved some success while treating these disabilities. Apart from this, there are many medical website, which offers medication for different types of disabilities. Apart from it, proper doctor guidance and actively indulging to that guidance is the key to gain success against this physical disability. There are some physiotherapist, who can treat children and adult suffering with disabilities.
In the case of children with physical disabilities right from born, can be prevented by having proper diet before and during pregnancy. So that the child can be free from any kind of disability.
I just read an op-ed piece written by a doctor in which he discusses why he feels it would be better for people with depression to be forced to work rather than allowed to go on disability. The crux of his argument seemed to be that when he was a junior doctor he lived next door to some young men who were on disability for depression yet they were able to get out in the yard and play football. The more I read of his article, it became clear to me that he was, in fact, jealous because he was working hard learning to be a doctor so he could treat these people who seemed to be living the easy life, drawing a check from the government, even though they were not really debilitated enough, in his opinion, to be disabled.
Reading this article, it occurred to me that depression doesn't get the respect that it should because it is an invisible illness. There is nothing obviously wrong with people who are depressed. They plaster on a fake smile, make an appearance at work every day and everything appears to be normal. But, does the fact that depressed people are physically capable of getting themselves to work mean they aren't too disabled to work? I think only someone who has experienced depression knows the real answer to that question.
I am one of the lucky ones who was able to recover from depression with treatment. But, what if I had been treatment-resistant, going from one medication to another with no relief, the way so many people do? I can remember dragging myself to work most days, pulling myself out of bed at the last possible second because my sleep had been so poor. I would be there in body, but not really up to the task emotionally, psychologically or even physically. I made numerous mistakes, my productivity was low and all-around I was just not a good employee when I was depressed. Whenever I possibly could, I used sick days and vacation time to relieve the unbearable stress. I can well imagine what it is like for the chronically depressed person who is not able to find relief through any means. How can you do a competent job at work when you can barely find the energy to pull yourself out of bed? If you are struggling to hold a job because of your depression and there is no end in sight for your symptoms, why shouldn't you be considered disabled?
5 Tips to Attract, Keep and Motivate
Your Employees
by Greg Smith
In today's workplace, almost limitless job opportunities and less employee loyalty has created an environment where the business needs its employees more than the employees need the business. Here are some tips on retaining and motivating your work force.
Employers face major challenges when they consider the increasing difficulty of finding skilled people, a younger workforce with different attitudes about work, and a growing population of older workers heading toward retirement.
A recent study shows 85% of HR executives state the single greatest challenge they have in managing the workforce is their organization's inability to recruit and retain good employees and managers.
Picture this scenario -- John is the CEO of a large organization experiencing high turnover. His Human Resources staff was spending more and more time recruiting, hiring, and training replacements. As soon as they got them trained, they would be gone in six months. Customers were upset and complaints were increasing.
John decided to explore the main reasons people were quitting. He identified new strategies and tactics such as creating an emerging leaders program, providing training for managers, and improving their employee recognition program. As a result, they are now attracting better talent and more importantly, have retained their best people. The Human Resource Department is happier because they are not spending all their time conducting training.
Few businesses realize how much employee turnover impacts their bottom line. It takes $7,000 - $14,000 to replace a typical employee. Replacing a key manager costs the same as buying a new Honda. In the healthcare arena, it costs up to $185,000 to replace a critical care nurse. The question then arises, how can a business survive when the cost of turnover and recruitment runs into the millions of dollars each year?
Businesses can improve their ability to attract, retain and improve productivity by applying the following five-step PRIDE process:
P - Provide a Positive Working Environment
R - Recognize, Reward and Reinforce the Right Behavior
I - Involve and Engage
D - Develop Skills and Potential
E - Evaluate and Measure
STEP 1--PROVIDE A POSITIVE WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Jim Goodnight is the co-founder and President of SAS in Raleigh-Durham, NC. SAS is the largest software development company in the United States. Their progressive work environment and host of family-friendly benefits keeps their turnover rate far below the national average. Jim said, "My assets leave work for home at 5:00 or later each night. It is my job to bring them back each day." Wise executives realize the responsibility for creating a positive work environment cannot be delegated. It starts at the top.
Have you ever worked for a bad boss? One of the main reasons employees quit is the relationship with their first-line supervisor. The fact is many supervisors and managers are unaware how their actions and decisions affect employee turnover. A critical aspect of an effective retention strategy is manager training. Properly trained managers play a major role in an effective recruitment and retention strategy. Managers need the skills, tools, and knowledge to help them understand their employees' retention needs and be able to implement a retention plan designed to increase employee engagement in the organization.
RECOGNIZE, REWARD AND REINFORCE THE RIGHT BEHAVIOR
Money and benefits may attract people to the front door, but something else has to keep them from going out the back. People have a basic human need to feel appreciated and proud of their work. Recognition and incentive programs help meet that need.
A successful reward and recognition program does not have to be complicated or expensive to be effective. Graham Weston, co-founder and CEO of Rackspace Managed Hosting, gives the keys to his BMW M3 convertible to his employees for a week. This creative way to reward employees has a bigger impact than cash. He says, "If you gave somebody a $200 bonus, it wouldn't mean very much. When someone gets to drive my car for a week, they never forget it."
At First American, managers present a Greased Monkey Award to the computer technician who is best in resolving problems with computer programs. The award is a plastic toy monkey in a jar of Vaseline along with a $50 dinner certificate.
An equipment distributor rewards each employee's work anniversary with a cake and a check for $200 for each year employed. Twice a year employees' children receive a $50 savings bond when they bring in their "all A's" report card. In addition, they reward employees with a "Safety Bonus Program." They screen each employee's driving record twice a year, and anyone who has a citation is removed from consideration. Those employees remaining at the end of the year divide $2,000. On Fridays, all employees rotate jobs for one hour. This builds a stronger team, unity, and improves communication within the company.
STEP 3--INVOLVE AND ENGAGE
People may show up for work, but are they engaged and productive? People are more committed and engaged when they can contribute their ideas and suggestions. This gives them a sense of ownership.
The Sony Corporation is known for its ability to create and manufacture new and innovative products. In order to foster the exchange of ideas within departments, they sponsor an annual Idea Exposition. During the exposition, scientists and engineers display projects and ideas they are working on. Open only to Sony's employees, this process creates a healthy climate of innovation and engages all those who participate.
TD Industries in Dallas, TX has a unique way of making its employees feel valued and involved. One wall within the company contains the photographs of all employees who have worked there more than five years. Their "equality" program goes beyond the typical slogans, posters, and HR policies. There are no reserved parking spaces or other perks just for executives -- everyone is an equal. This is one reason why TD Industries was listed by Fortune magazine as one of the "Top 100 Best Places to Work."
STEP 4--DEVELOP SKILLS AND POTENTIAL
For most people, career opportunities are just as important as the money they make. In a study by Linkage, Inc. more than 40 percent of the respondents said they would consider leaving their present employer for another job with the same benefits if that job provided better career development and greater challenges.
Deloitte is listed as one of the "Top 100 Best Places to Work." They discovered several years ago they were losing talented people to other companies. They conducted exit surveys and found 70 percent of those employees who left to take new jobs and careers outside the company, could have found the same jobs and careers within Deloitte. As a result they created Deloitte Career Connections, an intranet-based development and career coaching program for all employees. During the first week of implementation over 2,000 employees took advantage of the program and viewed internal job openings. Not only does the program provide new job opportunities, but Career Connections offers a host of career development tools such as self-assessments, tools to develop resumes, and articles on various job seeking strategies within the company. Skilled people will not remain in a job if they see no future in their position. To eliminate the feeling of being in a dead-end job, every position should have an individual development plan.
STEP 5--EVALUATE AND MEASURE
Continuous evaluation and never-ending improvement is the final step of the PRIDE system. The primary purpose of evaluation is to measure progress and determine what satisfies and de-satisfies your workforce. The evaluation process includes the measurement of attitudes, morale, turnover, and the engagement level of the workforce. Here is a checklist of items that should be included in your evaluation and measurement process.
Conduct an employee satisfaction survey at least once a year.
Initiate interviews and surveys concerning the real reasons people come to and leave your organization.
Improve your hiring process to create a better match between the individual's talents and job requirements.
Provide flexible work arrangements for working parents and older workers.
Hold managers responsible for retention in their departments.
Start measuring the cost of turnover.
Focus on the key jobs that have the greatest impact on profitability and productivity.
Examine those departments that have the highest turnover rates.
Design an effective employee orientation program.
how messed up relationships affect mate choice
In order not to make this mistake you need to make sure you do the following:
1) Understand yourself perfectly: Many relationships fail because people go for the first choice without really understanding what suits them. When you get to understand yourself more you will be able to pick the partner who suits you the most
2) Don't rush it: Some people, especially in eastern societies, rush into marriage without making proper calculations. When i found that i needed a car with more capabilities i just put a plan to buy another one. fortunately with cars you can have more than one and no one will complain but in relationships you might get stuck forever with the wrong choice you made
3) Find out why relationships fail: Collect experience from the people around you. Whenever a relationship fails try to understand what went wrong whenever possible so that you collect some experience. When you know why relationships fail you will be in a better position to make the right choice (see also Dealing with rejection in relationships)
People who don't understand how others perceive physical attraction usually develop the imagined ugliness disorder.
The book The psychology of physical attraction explained was released by 2knowmyself. This book won't just help you understand how the attraction process happens but it will also help you discover how attractive you are and will assist you in getting over the imagined ugliness problem.
How to buy your dream car
Tip #1 – Decide what your dream car is
Whether you want a 1969 Ford Mustang GT or a 2013 Ferrari F12, you need to have some kind of goal in mind. Maybe you don’t know what year or model at this stage, maybe you just want to own a classic convertible. If you don’t know, be realistic and think about what would make you happy. Do some research online, go to some car shows, look around at a few speciality dealerships too.. heck if something catches your eye at the grocery store, take note! I just can’t stress this enough – make sure you figure out what you want so you can word towards something… it doesn’t have to be an exact make/model/year… but give yourself something to work towards.
Tip #2 – Determine your dream car budget
Is your dream car going to cost $5,000? $25,000? $70,000? $150,000? Whatever the cost (and this is YOUR dream, it’s up to you!), make sure the number is realistic given your income and lifestyle. If you make $40k a year and have a gambling addition you’ll need to save for several lifetimes if you’re planning to buy that $2M+ Bugatti Veyron (although Beyonce gave a Bugatti Veyon to Jay-Z as a birthday gift!). All I’m saying is that in order to make your dream a reality, make sure you’re setting up an achievable goal. Don’t forget to factor in the annual cost of maintenance, insurance, and fuel. That can add up quickly depending on the make/model/age/condition!
Do some research online and figure out what the cost of the car might be. I recommend you look at the cars available on AutoTrader to see what the current selling prices are for most makes/models. You never know, you might find the car you’ve been waiting for! You can also check Kelly’s Blue Book for official car selling prices.
Tip #3 – Buy a die cast model car to keep you focused
Isn’t this blog supposed to tell you how to save rather than spend money? Yes… But in order to keep your goals clear and on your mind, you need something to remind you about your goal on a daily basis. I started obsessing about a Porsche in the early 1990s and over the years I picked up several inexpensive diecast model Porsches along the way. Those were the best decision I could have made to help keep me focused on the dream. What may look like paperweights to some, these were a constant reminder that owning a Porsche wasn’t just a crazy pipe-dream – if I was going to own a Porsche I needed to have a constant reminder to make sure I didn’t deviate from my plan! Oh, and I had a bunch of posters, a keychain, and other miscellaneous Porsche paraphernalia that also helped keep me focused
Tip #4 – Figure out how long you need to save for your dream car
Let’s say you want to buy a $30,000 Corvette and you want to have it in 5 years. I’m not going to use confusing financial formulas here, just take $30k and divide it up into 60 months (5 years x 12 months). That’s not the “correct” calculation as interest is a variable, but for this exercise it’s enough (especially when you consider how low interest rates on savings accounts are these days). Ignoring interest, the $30k over 5 years equates to $500 month. That’s what you need to start socking away in order to have $30k by the 60th month (again this doesn’t account for compound interest, but I’m ignoring that for this purpose). In any case you need to figure out where you’re going to come up with $500/month for this car. Don’t forget to factor in the cost of insurance, fuel, and auto maintenance once you commence ownership (and I expect you to do some of that basic maintenance yourself to save a few bucks! )
If you can’t afford whatever the monthly savings goal is at first glance – DON’T FRET! Do you think I had $500/month when I was 14 years old? Heeeeck no. But I started putting money away with every pay cheque and any time I received cash (Birthday, Christmas, or any other occasion when I got cash unexpectedly). The most important part here is to establish some sort of routine so you start to build a small nest egg that you can begin working harder at later on, and eventually crack that sucker open when the time comes!
Tip #5 – Set up a savings account for your dream car
Well now that you have a car in mind, some understanding of what the cost will be in the future, you’re ready to start putting some cash aside. I’d recommend setting up a dedicated savings account where you can start putting that money away. You can sign up for Tax Free Savings Accounts which allows you to put away up to $5k a year tax-free (in Canada anyway). In any case I’d recommend talking to a financial advisor to get some sound advice. If you’re risk adverse you’ll want to go with something a little more conservative, but if you don’t mind taking a loss in the short term you can invest in some more volatile funds. I’m not an investment guru so I won’t be covering any of this in detail – if this interests you, please talk to a professional!
In my situation, I began saving long ago in my late teenage years. I didn’t mark any of these funds as a Porsche, but did start saving early to help get me that much further ahead so I could afford the car in the long run. Later in life, once I was a little more established and could afford a monthly payment, I setup a Tax Free Savings Account and invested a lump sum to get me started. After that I had a monthly payment plan in place which kept increasing my total savings. You never know when you might get $500 from a grandmother, or maybe you’ll earn a big bonus one year. Any time I received some cash I put some of that towards my car!
Tip #6 – Lower your personal expenses
I can’t put all the tips and tricks I used to lower my expenses in this blog post… For that you’ll need to follow along the site and learn the lifestyle of frugal living! There are PLENTY of ways to reduce your expenses so that you have more money available to save for the things that are the most important. These are all practices that I personally followed which helped save up extra disposable income for me to use when buying my Porsche!
Tip #7 – Test drive your dream car
Ferris Bueler’s Day Off Ferrari Joyride
There’s nothing as disappointing as saving for 10 years to only find out that the car you thought you wanted has terrible blind spots, drives like a tank, and consumes more fuel than a jumbo jet. As you keep reminding yourself about the work you’ve invested in getting this fund established and built up, start thinking about test driving a few cars where possible. I did this when I wasn’t quite ready to buy. I wanted to make sure that after ALL THIS TIME I wasn’t setting myself up for disappointment with a Porsche. Would it be too uncomfortable, have horrible blind spots, be too noisy, etc… I wanted to make sure I didn’t spent the last 20 years dreaming about a car that I wasn’t going to enjoy. I recommend checking out a few used car dealers. Explain that you’re saving for a certain car and while you’re not yet ready to buy, you’re getting close. Make sure they understand it’s not a big rush that you just wanted to look around to get a sense of what you do/don’t like, that you want to learn a bit more, and maybe take a test drive if they’re willing to do that. You might be surprised to see what a salesperson is willing to do in order to get your business when they know you are just in research mode – they know a great experience could turn you into a customer!
Tip #8 – Shop around for your dream car
As your savings account grows larger you’ll get more excited about getting closer to buying your dream car. It may only be a few more years or months until you’re all set! By this time you’ve moved your diecast car around about a hundred times from room to room, and it may have followed you from job to job or during moves from one home to another. By now you need to start looking a bit more closely at what’s selling and what’s available. Shop online on Kijiji or check out the used car auctions on eBay Motors to get a good sense of what the market is like. Go back to AutoTrader again too. In any case start checking out auctions and selling prices. You can usually specify details on some sights as specific as interior color, car age, etc… you might find just what you’re looking for!
Tip #9 – Time to buy your dream car
Well after all this time, you’ve finally saved enough cash up to buy that car of yours. I’m assuming you’ve found the right car, taken it for a test drive, and now you’re just at the point where the sales guy is asking you to give him your business. A few tips here:
Buy at the end of the month. Most sales reps are willing to give you a slightly larger discount then as it’s at the end of their month and they want to close the deal
Buy in winter if it’s a sports car. The winter is slower, cars aren’t moving off the lot as fast.
Ask for cash discounts. They’ll almost always say no, but it’s worth asking. Don’t be scared to push hard, these guys get paid a commission so there’s a good chance they don’t want to give you any additional discounts as that hurts their income. That’s not your problem – you have a right to ask for a discount as every incremental dollar you pay hurts your income!
Ask them about any additional fees (administration fees etc) as they can be expensive. See if they’ll waive them or wrap them into the cost of the car and then offer a discount equivalent to this admin fee.
See what they’ll throw in as added value… I got a set of used winter tires/rims at nearly half off what they were going to sell them to me at. We got a few goodies included too – a couple of Porsche hats, some nice key chains, and even a stuffed pillow in the shape of a red Porsche 911 for my daughter Don’t forget about asking for oil changes or detailing packages too as those are as good as cash.
Tip #10 – Owning your dream car
You’re going to have people give you an occasional thumbs up. People will stop you in parking lots to ask you about your car. You’re going to have the urge to take your car for a spin one evening, even though it’s dark and raining… It’s all a very sick club!!! But you’re going to love it. Owning your dream car means you need to care for it. Like any baby, bathe it occasionally, look after it and have it checked over by a qualified mechanic (doctor!) from time to time. Treat it well and it will treat you well.
Well guys and gals, I hope this post has helped give you some inspiration and a few tips that you might be able to use when saving up for your dream car. In case you wondered, yes I still have my diecast cars and they’re currently featured on the shelf in my ‘man cave’ (tv room in the basement). My wife just got me a 1:18 scale Porsche 911 for Christmas this year which resembles my own 911, which I love dearly – it helps keep me occupied during the winter months while my car is parked and stored in the garage.
How your relationship with your parents affects you
When we think of the term “relationship,” perhaps naturally we tend to first think of romantic ones: boyfriend/ girlfriend, wife/husband, significant other/ life partner, etc. What we don’t always consider (and that’s my job I suppose) is how those relationships function in the context of all other relationships: you and your partner haven’t been living on a island, with no one else around, for your entire lives, correct? (If you’re Brooke Shields and that one blond guy, disregard this.)

The problems you may be experiencing in your relationships aren’t simple; they may just as easily be influenced by the many other (non-romantic) relationships in your life as they are by your partner. For this first article, I thought I’d focus on a relationship that most definitely impacts nearly every romantic relationship in the world-- the relationship of one’s parents. Not just the one you have with them, but the one they have or had with each other.
My father died recently (my mother four years before that), and, in compiling material to write a memoir (presumptuous, I know), I’ve been thinking quite a bit about how two people find each other, fall in love, get along (or don’t) all the while creating a family-- while in this case being my parents, my mom and dad: two people I, for a significant portion of my life, have looked on as Higher Beings. It’s only in the last ten years or so that I’ve been able to clearly see them as People. Individuals. A man and a woman with hopes and fears and dreams and anger.
Just Like Me, essentially.
Supposedly seeing your parents as equals is a big part of maturity (which makes me feel better about my gray hairs, I guess). As a therapist and a fiction writer, I spend a large part of my intellectual time considering the point of view of others, ideally going so far as to try and think like them.
You’ve seen this cliche in books and TV crime procedurals-- “We have to think like the killer,” etc. Although in this present instance (forensic psychology excluded) the “killers” in question are mommy and daddy.
There’s a line from the recent film, “The Tree of Life” that goes: “Mother... father... always you wrestle inside me.” Understanding this relationship (of the two people who raised you, if not gave you 100% of your genetic material) will give you an amazing level of insight into the relationships you presently have, or have had.
Although this is potentially a novel-length discussion, let’s begin it with this: think back over your life growing up. Summon the memories of your childhood and adolescence. Nothing specific, just let the facts, impressions, and so on waft up around you, like “memory smoke.”
Now pretend you’re making a documentary on your parent’s lives. Envision them growing up, that pivotal scene where they first meet, how they interact at first when they don’t really know each other, the problems they have, if any, how they get married, etc.
Now compare this early relationship with your childhood. How are they similar? Did you see any of their problems in the beginning that were still around as you grew up? (You’re imagining of course, but you might be surprised by how much information you unconsciously absorbed about your parents, even as a very young child.) Did you see any problems that got “fixed” by the time you were born or were an older child or adolescent?
Did you imagine any newer problems as you aged? How did raising you affect them? Did they divorce? Did they separate? If they did or didn’t, why might that have been?
(And don’t say it was because of you; couples that divorce ostensibly over children almost always had problems before that-- the child only made those problems more obvious.)
Now that you’ve got an emerging picture of the people who raised you:
Do you notice any similarities to the relationship you’re in now, or ones you’ve been in in the past?
I bet you do.
Next, we’ll continue this line of thinking, and examine how your parents may’ve taught you more than you realize about your love life.
Now if anyone has really read everything that I have placed on here, Then I have one thing to say to you! Your life is a lot worst off and one of the worst that I have ever seen. Get busy and do something about your life. I don’t care if you 10 years old or even 90 years old. Your alive, then get out there and tell everyone to live!
